OM grown dancers is a contemporary based movement company established in Durham, North Carolina in 2016; founded and directed by dancer/choreographer Courtney OM (Owen-Muir).
Ms. OM, a migrant from Toronto Canada, has established a reputation for captivating storytelling with influences in intricate partnering and complex floor work, all which have harvested to become her notorious trademarks. The dancers (The OMIES) as a whole, are mechanical yet lively group of dancers who’s saga’s reflect each of their individual real-life experiences.

          Ms. OM hails from Toronto, Canada and is full-time dancer, choreographer and dance educator, internationally, but primarily in the United States. Her professional training included Ryerson University, BFA Dance program and The Conteur Academy, a contemporary conservatory, where she graduated in 2013 under the direction of Eryn Waltman. 

          She has trained with such notables as Sidra Bell, Alexandra Wells, Gerri Houlihan, Abby Zbikowski, Shannon Gillen and Kate Hutter, to name a few. Courtney has worked internationally as a dancer and choreographer. She performed in Greece on a 6 week tour through Ryerson University performing contemporary dance works and supporting acting roles, produced and directed by Peggy Shannon. Her professional work in the United States began in 2014, working with Code F.A.D Dance Company, The KT Collective, BELLAN Performance Dance Theater and Gaspard & Dancers. 
          As a choreographer, Courtney began producing work in the United States in 2014 at the SARUS festival in Wilmington, NC. Here, she began receiving recognition for her choreographic works, which encouraged her to continue to produce work both locally and internationally.

          Courtney established a non-profit (501c3) dance company; OM grown dancers in 2016 and was honored to have the cast of dancers she had supporting her inaugural year. In the company's first year, Courtney successfully created an evening length work titled The EVOL//you//TION inFULL, which premiered in June of 2017. The company travelled both locally and internationally sharing the creation with communities near and far. The OM grown dancers performed at: EDANCO - Dominican Republic, Dogtown Dance Festival - Richmond VA, The Bell House Exchange Festival - Tulsa OK, North Carolina Dance Festival - Greensboro NC and Emergence - Durham NC. The company’s second season, ALKHAWF,  led them to 3 sold out world premiers and onto and the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico where they will tour in October/November 2018.

          Lastly, Courtney  OM is a co-owner and the dance director at Threehosue Stuidos; a boutique drop in yoga, music, dance and conditioning studio downtown Durham, NC. And can be found this season, teaching there, along with: The American Dance Festival, Campaneria Ballet School, Stage Door Dance Productions, The Ballet School of Chapel Hill. Courtney has worked at many additional studios in the Triangle including, but not limited to: Nina’s School of Dance, Brand Performance Dance and North Carolina Dance Institute to name a few.
